bumGenius Freetime Review and Giveaway!

Katie's back with a review of the bumGenius Freetime. I reviewed it about a year ago, if you'd like a second opinion. I will say that once A-Train potty trained during the day, I had no use for the Freetime. It just does not hold up well for nighttime use. But, withouth further ado, here's Katie!
When you're sick of stuffing pockets, what type of diaper do you usually go for? I personally love either using my GroVia Hybrids or I reach for an All In One (AIO) diaper. This saves on stuffing tons of pockets when laundry day sneaks up. One of my favorite AIO diapers is the bumGenius Freetime! Why is the Freetime one of my favorite AIO diapers? Let me tell you about some of the great features.
Unlike most AIO diapers (like the bumGenius Elemental), the Freetime has inserts that are half sewn in. So you have two flaps that fold out. The best way I can describe it is that it looks like they took a stay dry Flip insert, cut it in half then sewn one edge of each to either end of the diaper. One of the positives I noticed about this feature is that it speeds drying time up a lot!
You'll notice that the tabs are stretchy which will help you get that nice custom, snug fit. The stretchy tabs are also on the 4.0, Elemental and the Flip covers. The Freetime has all the bumGenius colors and prints available with the exception of their newest prints, Irwin and Maathai. (I personally hope they release those prints for the Freetime soon!) The Freetime has a nice trim fit and there's no bulk to worry about. It starts fitting from 8 pounds all the way up to 35 plus pounds. Monkey weighs in at roughly 35 pounds and the Freetime fits him wonderfully!
One of my least favorite things about getting a new diaper is when the prepping instructions say to wash at least 3-5 times before use. The last thing I want to do is wash my brand new diapers all day, I just want to put them on my little guy and take pictures! With the Freetime you only have to wash once on hot and it can be washed with all of your other diapers and it's ready to be used. Washing is simple as well since there isn't anything special you have to do. As for drying, I always hang my Freetime on the drying rack. I hate putting anything with snaps in the dryer for fear of possibly ruining a diaper from dryer damage. Although, if using the dryer is your thing, you can tumble dry it on low. The Freetime dries pretty quickly even when hanging it out to dry. It dries a lot faster than some other AIOs like the bumGenius Elemental or the Thirsties AIO. The quick drying time can be attributed to the flaps and how nicely the diaper opens.
The fit of the Freetime is just one of the many things I love about it. We get a nice snug fit with a little room left to grow. I love the fit around his chunky thighs as well. It can be difficult getting diapers to fit around his giant thighs. We either get leg gaps or they fit way to tight around. The bumGenius Freetime nails it with it's fit! I also really love that the inserts are stay dry. They keep Monkey's bottom dry and free from irritation. It's quite nice that with the inserts only half sewn in that it speeds drying time up, ultimately making it faster to get back on your babies bottom!
Some may have reservations about the way the inserts are semi-attached because of poop. (Yep, I said it. Poop!) I usually fold the front flap down first, then the back flap. The reason for this is so the poop stays on the top flap, making it easier to spray. Spraying poop off is pretty simple. The flaps really just stay in place while spraying, so there isn't a huge mess or frustration while trying to clean up.
Considering the Freetime has microfiber inserts, it's actually quite absorbent. Not only is it great for nap time, but it works great when we need to go out to run errands. We never have to worry about leaking when we're trying to get our grocery shopping and other errands done. For nighttime it's not the best to use for my heavy wetter unless we want to wake up to wet sheets. You can however, easily modify it by laying an extra insert under the flaps (if your insert isn't too long) or on top to make it as absorbent as you need it to be.
So now you can see why I really like the Freetime All In One. You can get a nice fit without all the extra bulk. There are super cute colors and prints to choose from. The drying time is extremely quick. Of course, you can't forget that since it's an AIO it's super simple to use! I would absolutely recommend the bumGenius Freetime. I have on several occasions, actually. If you're looking to add some AIOs to your stash, definitely check out the Freetime. I find that bumGenius products are very well made and durable so they'll last you a long time.
Katie Fender is a stay at home mom to one very active toddler. He goes by Monkey most of the time because of his fascination with climbing all over everything! Being a stay at home mom, Katie needed to find a creative outlet and hobby so she started her blog A Tale of Fluff. Her obsession with cloth diapers started when she and her husband decided to make the switch when Monkey was a few months old. Her love of cloth diapers led her to being a tester for TGN. Now she has the pleasure of bringing you reviews for diapers at TGN you might be considering purchasing.
